Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club September Youth of the Month

Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club has named Kirianna D. and David M. as the September Youth of the Month.

Kirianna D. is 10 years old, in the fifth grade at Connolly Elementary School and has been a member of the Club since July. During our 2018 Summer Program, she enjoyed assisting Mr. Sean (O’Callaghan) Education Director, with a weekly lemonade stand fundraiser project, and actively participating in educational programs in the Learning Center. Her favorite subjects are Art, Gym and Music. Although unsure about what she would like to be when she grows up just yet, Kirianna knows she would like her future job to be art related. She started drawing when she was four years old, and hasn’t let up. She enjoys her time at the Club where she is able to create beautiful works of art in the Art Room or have a chance to get active in the Gym. “I love to exercise while I'm here because I really don't get the chance to at home”, Kirianna shared. In her short time at the club, Kirianna has developed a connection with Miss Lyasia (Milledge), Group Leader, who assists her with her homework each day. She also added that she is “thankful for Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club because she has learned new things, met new people, and played new games”. Kirianna truly appreciates all of the new things that the Club has provided her.

David M. is 14 years old and an eighth grader at Robert M. Finley Middle School. His favorite subject is Math because he enjoys challenging his mind and problem solving. In his free time, David shared that he enjoys reading adventure stories because “Books have this way of letting you inhabit another world”, and that they expand his imagination. Having only joined in September, this is his first year as a Club member and he is thrilled about being named the Youth of the Month. In the two short months that he has been a member, he is already appreciative of everything the Club has to offer in its terrific programs and its caring, attentive staff. When asked what he's most thankful to the Club for, David shared: “The Staff is so caring and nice- always making sure we're safe”. When he grows up, David says he wants to enter a career field in which he can be of help to the less fortunate. “Helping someone when they're in need is something that really brings a smile to my face”.

Congratulations to Kirianna and David- The September Youth of the Month!
