Junior Youth of the Month Tyler C. is eight years old and in the third grade at Landing Elementary School. He likes school and participating in art, math and technology related curriculum. He also enjoys playing sports and is planning on joining junior soccer and basketball leagues. Tyler has been a member of the Club for almost four years. He attends the Club regularly after he completes his homework assignments at home first. When Tyler gets to the Club, he begins his experience by reading first, for at least 20 minutes, in the Learning Center before engaging in more playful and sports activities with his friends in the Club gymnasium, Computer Lab and Games room. “I love it here. It’s like having a lot of play dates all at once,” said Tyler. “I’ve made so many friends with kids from my school and from other schools too. My circle of friends keeps getting bigger and bigger.” Tyler, who has an outgoing and friendly nature as well as an entrepreneurial spirit, hopes to be involved in family business. “I’m going to learn real life skills from my Dad so that I can help him with his business and take over running it someday,” said Tyler.

Senior Youth of the Month, Melanie J., 12, is a 7th grader at Robert M. Finley Middle School. “I really wanted to join the Club because I heard it was so much fun here from my friends,” said Melanie, who is a fairly new member. She is participating in Teen based programs and looking forward to Club based volunteering events and activities. “I’m really getting to know everyone and enjoying being with my friends in the new David P. Pearson Teen Center. The Club is an awesome place, especially for kids that really enjoy being around people. I find the staff really nice and they really treat the kids well,” said Melanie who attends the Club every day. “I’m really looking forward to being involved in the Summer Program too.” In addition to attending the Club, Melanie is in the Basketball for Girls Program through school. Her favorite subjects are social studies and science. She plans on graduating from High School and attending college. “I’m not sure what I want to major in or what career I want to pursue but I do plan on going to college,” said Melanie.
