Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month Banquet Honors Outstanding Members
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club held their Youth of the Month Banquet to honor the Club's 2017 Youth of the Year and 22 outstanding members.
Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club held their Youth of the Month Banquet to honor the Club’s 2017 Youth of the Year, Adiel R. and 22 outstanding members who were recognized as Youth of the Month. The event, held at the Club on Thursday, June 8, also acknowledged the Louis M. Sanford and Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club scholarship recipients.
The Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Club’s signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy. Adiel R. was awarded the Club’s most coveted title for his outstanding achievements and accomplishments, and his dedication and commitment to the Club, his peers and his family. Adiel was one of five teens considered for the Youth of the Year title.
The Youth of the Month is also a Boys & Girls Club recognition program focusing on and acknowledging Club members leadership abilities. Each month the Club awards two outstanding youth, a junior Club member ages 6-12 and a senior Club member ages 13-18. The Youth of the Month is a rigorous selection process with members nominated by program staff based on members’ participation, positive attitude, helpfulness, attendance and achievement. Education Director, Sean O’Callaghan presented the 11 Junior Youths of the Month praised for their outstanding achievements. The Junior YOM included Gianluca A., Calogero B., Bryan B., Giovanni C., Jordan D., Javier E., Cindy G., Ashley N., Joshua R., Madison V. and Leybis V. Teen Program Director Breanna Townsell presented the 11 Senior Youths of the Month including Jayden B., Jessica B., Josue C., Brianna C., Rafael C., Leydi F., Edward M., Dylan P., Mykaela P., Doris R. and Kimberly V. 10 year old Madison V. and 13 year old Josue C. spoke of what the Club means to them.

The Youth of the Year and Youth of the Month encourages outstanding conduct and the efforts youth are making to improve their attitude, school work, listening skills, relationship with peers and overall demeanor at the Club.
In addition to recognizing the Youth of the Year and Youth of the Month, the event also acknowledged Noah S., recipient of the Louis M. Sanford Scholarship and Neri R., recipient of the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Scholarship. Noah S. was also granted a $1,000 scholarship from Northwell Glen Cove Hospital presented by Dr. Barbara Keber, chair of the Medical Board.

“We are very proud of all our members but especially our Youth of the Year, our 22 Youth of the Month and our scholarship recipients who were honored at the Banquet. They have all demonstrated outstanding character and leadership skills. These kids are truly representative of the work we do and our mission of inspiring and enabling all young people to realize their full potential as productive and responsible citizens. We are delighted to host this Banquet that shows to them and their parents how much we appreciate their hard work and positive attitude,” said Executive Director, Franca Trunzo.
