Glen Cove Cleaning Lady Replaced Diamond With Fake Stone: Police

The woman was arrested after she was seen on home surveillance camera stealing money from her employer's closet, police say.

A Glen Cove cleaning lady was arrested Friday for stealing a diamond from her employer's antique ring and replacing it with a fake stone, police say.

According to authorities, a Glen Cove woman told police her antique diamond ring, which had been previously appraised for $15,000, had been tampered with while it was stored inside her home.

Glen Cove Police began investigating the case and became aware that the woman used a cleaning lady, identified as 40-year-old Glen Cove resident Lina Henriquez.

On Friday at 11:45 a.m., the resident was watching her home surveillance camera and saw Henriquez removing money from her bedroom closet and placing it in her pocket, police say. The resident called police and Henriquez was arrested.

An investigation determined it was Henriquez who removed the diamond from its setting and replaced it with a fake diamond, police say. She was charged with third-degree grand larceny.
