Glen Cove FD Celebrates 180th Anniversary With Parade, Entertainment
The entire Glen Cove community is invited to attend the celebration this weekend.
All members of the community are invited to join the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department in celebrating their 180th anniversary event.
The anniversary celebration kicks off at the Annual Fifth Battalion Parade & Drill on Saturday, June 17.

- Bounce castle
- Fire truck slide
- Food, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, chicken fingers, Ralph’s Italian Ice
- Beverages from the Garvies Point Brewery
- The local band Chicken Head Rocks will provide live entertainment for a special community celebration that will follow the parade
“Early on our North Shore community developed a vibrant local industry and with that came the growth of a small group of citizens who organized a fire watch.” Chief Philip Grella Jr. said in a press release “Today, that group has now grown to a 180-year-old fire department with over 100 diverse firefighters that all remain 100% volunteer to this day.”
The event will include fire departments from Bayville, East Norwich, Glenwood, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay, Roslyn, Sea Cliff, and Syosset.

Fifth Battalion T-Shirts will be available for a donation.
The celebration is free and parking is available in the Glen Cove Parking Garage located on Brewster Street. Portions of streets will be closed to traffic during the Parade and Charles Street will be closed from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
The Drill Tournament, in which teams of firefighters representing their departments compete in various old fashioned fire-fighting techniques, will take place at Tappen Beach in the Village of Sea Cliff, at 10:00 a.m.
The Parade will start at 6:00 p.m. from the Finley Middle School and march through School Street in downtown Glen Cove and culminate with a celebration in the vicinity of the Glen Cove Firehouse on Glen Cove Avenue.
