Glen Cove Fifth Graders Compete In Spelling Bee

Two representatives from each fifth grade class participated in the bee, going head-to-head in the competition.

GLEN COVE, NY - From Glen Cove City School District: Fifth graders at Landing and Connolly schools in the Glen Cove City School District participated in a spelling bee on March 28 at Connolly School. Two representatives from each fifth grade class participated in the bee, going head-to-head in the competition. The winner of the spelling bee was Connolly student Saoirse Feidor and the runner-up was Sophia German. Saoirse won by spelling the word “marmalade” correctly.

After the bee, all students enjoyed a celebration to recognize their hard work and dedication. The students from Landing enjoyed their visit to Connolly and stayed for lunch and recess. The event was a great way for the students to meet each other. The competition was also livestreamed for all the fifth graders to watch in their classroom. A special thanks to spelling bee coordinators Cheryl Carmody and Dora Ricciardi (Connolly) and Melissa Harechmak and Melanie Odone (Landing).
