Glen Cove Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parade
The City of Glen Cove will proudly host its annual Memorial Day events on Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26, 2025.
GLEN COVE, NY — The City of Glen Cove will proudly host its annual Memorial Day events on Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26, 2025. These observances, part of a nearly 160-year tradition, honor the men and women of the United States military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Please note that all events are rain or shine.
This year, the City will pay special tribute to William Joseph Morse, Sergeant, U.S. Army, who was killed in action on May 2, 1968, during the Vietnam War. Glen Cove native Anthony “Tony” Jimenez will serve as Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade.

12:00 PM — Military Banner Ceremony & Wreath Laying Location: Morgan Park Parking Lot
The ceremonies will begin at noon with the Military Banner Ceremony, followed by wreath-laying at the following sites:
1. WWII Monument (Entrance to Morgan Park)
2. Doughboy Monument (Glen Cove Library, 4 Glen Cove Ave)
3. Ford Street Monument (Ford St & Forest Ave)
4. Elm Avenue Monument (Elm Ave & Frost Pond Rd)
5. Calgary AME Cemetery (Piping Rock Rd, between Frost Pond & Duck Pond Rds, Matinecock, NY)
6. St. Rocco’s Monument (St. Rocco’s Church, 18 Third St)

12:00 PM — Memorial Day Parade Route: Begins at Cottage Row & Forest Avenue, proceeding through Downtown Glen Cove
Company, 3rd Battalion, 21st Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, USARV. Billy was a proud graduate of Glen Cove High School, a passionate athlete, and a friend to local legend Whitey Ford. Known affectionately as “Moose,” Billy’s strength of character and deep love for his country led him to serve at a time when many looked for ways to avoid the call.

His younger brother, John Morse, remembers him fondly — as a local sports star, a protective brother, and a young man who transformed into a proud soldier. The pain of his loss still resonates today, as it did the day a military sedan pulled up with an Army Casualty Officer and a Chaplain to deliver the news no family ever wants to hear.
Join us as we honor the life and sacrifice of Corporal Morse, the service of Grand Marshal Tony Jimenez, and all those who have laid down their lives in the name of freedom.
