Glen Cove Pays Tribute to Marine Hero

The Dan Daly Memorial Monument Rededication Ceremony will be held next week.

The City of Glen Cove will give tribute to a Glen Cove native and an American Hero at an upcoming ceremony.

A two-time Medal of Honor recipient during the early 1900s, Glen Cove’s Sgt. Major Dan Daly is one of the US Marine Corps most admired heroes.

Daly, who was born in Glen Cove, retired from the US Marine Corps in 1929 and died in 1937.

The Annual Dan Daly Memorial Monument Rededication ceremony will be held at Glen Cove’s Monument Park on Wednesday, June 24.

Entertainment will be led by a 16 piece US Marine Corps band.

“Sergeant Major Dan Daly was called the fightiest Marine ever known by a Marine Major General,” Glen Cove Mayor Reggie Spinello said. “It is an honor to remember our hometown hero and pay tribute to his service to the United States of America and the US Marine Corps.”

The ceremony kicks off at 4 p.m. and will be one-hour long.

Forest Avenue will be closed from Cottage Row to Dosoris Lane during the ceremony.
