Glen Cove School To Get New Sidewalk Library

GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – January 21, 2020 On Friday, January 24th at 10 AM, Girl Scout Troop 1420 and Tiegerman will be unveiling a Sidewalk Library in front of Tiegerman Middle School, located at 27 Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Cove. The purpose and goal of the Sidewalk Library installation is to increase reading and literacy, sharing the love and passion for books and reading with our local communities.

Girl Scout Troop 1420 completed their Bronze Award for reading just last year, as they read to hundreds of children across Long Island, while also donating an abundance of books. Tiegerman also greatly encourages reading among our individuals, through our own in-school programs, as well as fundraising events through Barnes & Noble Book Store.

Through this installation, we hope to express the importance of books and reading, while also teaching community members and students how to donate and exchange books with others. By doing this, it will further push the narrative of how much of a difference and impact a book can make on a child’s life, while also providing more accessibility to those who do not have access to a library or book store.

Aside from community involvement, we will be coordinating with other Girl Scout Troops and Tiegerman community members to keep our Sidewalk Library frequently replenished with children’s books.

Books inside of the Sidewalk Library are FREE to all throughout the Glen Cove community, and will be filled with books tailored to children. The reader can choose if they would like to return or keep the book they take out, and can also donate a book at any time.
