Glen Cove Students Perform at International Night
The event featured musical performances, dancing and passages shared about students' immigration experiences.
Glen Cove City School District held its third annual International Night at Glen Cove High School on Nov. 15.
The evening began in the auditorium where Monica Chavez, English as a new language coordinator, gave an introduction in both Spanish and English to those in attendance. Following introductions, the crowd was treated to student performances, which included piano music, the recitation of poetry, dancing and passages shared about their immigration experiences. The dance group Herederos and Salseritas from Alianza Latina performed some typical Colombian dances.
The evening continued in the school’s gallery where representatives from 11 community-based organizations provided information to families about their resources and services. Student translators were available to help the non-English-speaking families. A multicultural dinner was then served in the cafeteria followed by dancing that was greatly enjoyed by everyone.
