GLEN HEAD, NY--A Glen Head man was arrested and charged on May 9 for bail jumping in relation to being charged last December with animal cruelty, the Nassau County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.

Last year, a Nassau County SPCA detective visited the Glen Head home of Gregory Bagwell, 70. The detective found a female black, brown and white brindle pit bull mix named Casey, who is approximately five years old, with little or no use of her hind legs, the SPCA said. According to the SPCA, Casey had a large open sore on her left rear leg, was visibly underweight and had an odor emanating from her. She also appeared to have diarrhea, and as a result of the injury to her hind legs, the excrement was being transferred from the floor to her hair and skin, the SPCA said.

Bagwell was charged with third-degree bail jumping, a misdemeanor. He was processed by the Nassau County Police and Nassau County District Attorney's Animal Crimes Unit, and was arraigned May 9 in First District Court in Hempstead and held on $5,000 bond.
