June Petrucci Honored for 'Crossing' Children for 45 Years

June Petrucci has devoted 45 years dutifully seeing to it that children crossing the roads on the way to school did so safely at Glen Cove school posts.

Last week Mayor Reginald Spinello and the City Council presented Petrucci with a citation, applauding her for her service.

“Bring up the subject of school crossing guards in the City of Glen Cove, and hundreds of parents will say of June Petrucci, ‘Ours is awesome,’” Spinello said.

Petrucci started as a crossing guard in January, 1969. Her first post was at Finley Middle School, and served there for 30 years. Next was a post at Connolly School for 15 years. In January 1975, June became the first woman member of the Glen Cove Special Police and stayed with them for 23 years. Officials say her dedication and work ethic are exemplary.
