NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) has met with one of New York State’s leading rabbis to discuss a recent rise in anti-Semitism, specifically, the hate-filled speech at the May 12 CUNY Law School commencement. On June 30th, Lavine who serves as President of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Jewish Legislators, and as a member of the association’s National Board of Directors, met with Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, the Executive Vice President of The New York Board of Rabbis at Potasnik’s Manhattan office. Lavine had previously condemned the speech and the failure of school officials to immediately denounce it in a letter to CUNY Chancellor Felix Matos Rodriguez which was co-signed by many bi-partisan members of the New York Chapter of the NAJL.

“It was a pleasure to meet again with Rabbi Potasnik, someone who I deeply respect and who shares my commitment to fighting anti-Semitism in any way possible,” Lavine said.
