Lavine Sends Letter to Migrant Children’s Shelter Amidst Allegations of Abuse

April 17, 2026

GLEN COVE, NEW YORK – In response to allegations of abusive treatment at a migrant children’s shelter, Assemblymember Charles Lavine (D-North Shore) has sent a letter to the facility’s president and CEO. In the letter to Children’s Village President & CEO Jeremy C. Kohomban, Lavine, who serves as Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, expressed his concern over “deeply disturbing reports of abuse involving immigrant children” at the Dobbs Ferry, NY facility. “I am outraged that little children are subjected to such abuse. They are separated from family, have endured significant trauma, and are entirely dependent on the systems charged with their protection,” Lavine said. Adding that he expects Children’s Village to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of all children in its custody.
