LIU Softball Star Earns National Recognition

Aly Dzierzynski is named to National Player of the Year Top-50 Watch List.

Aly Dzierzynski, a Deer Park High School graduate, has been named to the 2015 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Year Top-50 Watch List.

Dzierzynski is a senior catcher for the LIU Post softball team.

The list, released on Monday, was created to honor the outstanding athletic achievement among softball student-athletes throughout Division II, and highlights 50 student-athletes from across the country. The inaugural group consists of 29 seniors, 14 juniors and seven sophomores that represent 37 programs from 18 different conferences throughout the nation.

Last season, Dzierzynski garnered ECC, ECAC and Daktronics East Region Player of the Year recognition, while earning NFCA and Daktronics All-America first-team honors for her stellar efforts, according to LIU. She owned a .438 batting average, to go along with a .495 on-base percentage and a .907 slugging percentage. Plus, Dzierzynski belted 25 home runs and drove in 77 RBIs, which ranked third among all hitters in the nation. The Deer Park native broke the program’s single-season records with her home run and RBI total, and set new single-season program-bests in total bases (176), extra base hits (40) and slugging percentage.

Dzierzynski played for the Lady Falcons at Deer Park High for four years. The Falcons were Class AA finalists and ranked sixth on Long Island and 22nd in New York State in 2011. Dzierzynski batted .564 and drove in 23 runs on 44 hits with 28 runs scored during her senior year at Deer Park.
