Local Performers 'Rock the Cove' Downtown Sounds July 29th At Glen Cove Village Square

Local favorites Matt Grabowski, Lisa Vetrone, Brandon Lubrano, and Jenn Gerrity, backed by The Dandy Men, at Downtown Sounds July 29th.

Glen Cove, New York - July 15, 2016 - The Downtown Sounds Concert Series revisits its roots on week five when a collection of local artists perform at the Village Square Plaza in Glen Cove on July 29 at 7:30 pm. Called "Rock the Cove," the event features local performers collectively known as The Dandy Men playing throughout the evening with special appearances by a number of up-and-coming local singers and songwriters.

Heading up The Dandy Men is Andy Aledort, a Downtown Sounds veteran who performed this year during week two with one of his other bands, The Sidemen. Aledort has played with Dickey Betts and toured and recorded with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Trouble and Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox of Jimi Hendrix' band. He has also sold over one million guitar-based instructional DVDs. Aledort will be joined by Chris Kinnear, a singer/songwriter and guitarist who first played with Aledort in Sea Cliff when Andy requested him to sit in. Chris returned the favor and after jamming together on several occasions, the two realized they had great chemistry so they now join forces whenever their schedules permit. For example, when Aledort and The Groove Kings tore down the house on week eight of the 2013 DTS series, Kinnear was right by his side. Also on stage as part of The Dandy Men will be popular local bassist Chris Crosby, Jason Liebman and Rich Rosch.

The Dandy Men will serve as the back-up band for a number of special guests who will take the DTS stage at Rock the Cove 2016. These include Matt Grabowski, a Glen Cove native who performs regularly at local venues including the Glen Cove Mansion and View Grill. In 2016, Grabowski won the Gold Coast Art Center's "Your Big Break" competition, which saw 1,500 contestants from the Metropolitan Area display their musical talents. Lisa Vetrone, a finalist from that very-same competition one year prior, will also be featured at Rock the Cove. Vetrone is a member of the New York Songwriter's Circle and has performed at renowned venues including The Bitter End, Cafe Wha? and the Village Underground. Brandon Lubrano and Jenn Gerrity round out the local artists who will be featured.

From its inception in the mid '90s, one of the objectives of the Downtown Sounds Concert Series (formerly Jazz in the Square) was to provide a stage upon which local artists could begin their journey to fame. Through the years, the lineup has expanded and world-renowned performers like John Oates and Jimmy Webb have been featured

However, the local flavor is still present so if you want a taste of what's happening on the local music scene, be there to Rock the Cove at the Glen Cove Village Square on July 29.
