Lost Fisherman’s Body Found in Glen Cove Waters

The man and two others struggled to get back to shore after the waters became rough Saturday morning, police say.

Harbor Patrol officers recovered the body of a lost fisherman who became stranded in Glen Cove waters Saturday morning.

According to Glen Cove Police, three men walked out to a sandbar to fish off Morgan’s Island when they found themselves waist-deep in water after the tide came in at approximately 8:10 a.m.

The surrounding water was even deeper and was rough due to the windy conditions, causing the men to struggle when they attempted to swim back to shore, police say.

One resident attempted to help the men by using a flotation device but was unsuccessful.

Two men were able to make it back to shore while the third man went missing from view. His body was recovered two hours later near 4 Westland Drive by the Glen Cove Harbor Patrol. He drowned to death, police say.

Police have not released the man’s name at this time.
