Man Arrested After Driving While Intoxicated With 2 Kids, Ages 2 And 4, In Car In Glen Cove: Police

At the time of the arrest, the two children were in the backseat – not properly restrained – with their mother, Glen Cove police say.

GLEN COVE, NY — A man was arrested early Monday morning after driving while intoxicated with two young children in the car in Glen Cove, the Glen Cove Police Department said.

On April 20 at approximately 1:26 a.m., Glen Cove Police Officer O'Neil conducted a traffic stop on Glen Cove Avenue, police said.

After investigation, 34-year-old Pedro E. Marcia Maldonado of Hempstead was arrested, police said. At the time of the arrest, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old were seated in the backseat – not properly restrained — with their mother, police said.

Pedro E. Marcia Maldonado was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra's Law), two counts of failure to properly restrain a child, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, as well as additional vehicle and traffic law violations, Glen Cove police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned in District Court on Monday morning, police said.
