Man Used Stolen Cards To Make Purchases In Glen Cove: Police

BREAKING: An off duty Glen Cove police officer saw the man making fraudulent purchases and notified authorities, police say.

A man was caught purchasing more than $460 worth of items using fraudulent credit cads at a Glen Cove store on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

According to authorities, an off duty Glen Cove Police Officer observed Stephane D. Gentilus, 20, of Uniondale, attempting to make purchases at Walgreens, located at 93 Forest Ave., with stolen cards at 3:05 p.m.

When he was denied the purchase, he went back into the store while the officer exited the store and called police. Gentilus then made a purchase that included two gift cards worth more than $460 using fraudulent cards, police say.

Gentilus tried attempting to flee the scene in his vehicle but was stopped by Glen Cove Police and was placed under arrest without incident. He was found to be in possession of six fraudulent credit cards, a credit card reader/writing device, a quantity of marijuana and a digital scale, police say.

Gentilus was charged with six counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument and possession of a forgery device. An investigation also revealed he also has to open Nassau County Bench warrants for petty larceny and disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred in East Garden City in January 2016.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
