North Shore Central School Superintendent Edward K. Melnick posted this note on the district’s website:
An accident occurred on Glen Cove Avenue, about 180 yards south of the middle school and high school entrances. A middle school child was struck by a car. EMT, volunteer fire, school officials, police workers, and MS principals rushed to the scene and supported this young boy through the process of getting him to a nearby hospital. The parents and guardians were notified, Mrs. Canzoniero, a middle school counselor accompanied the child to the hospital. While injured, he is in stable condition at this time. Please speak with your children tonight about the importance of crossing Glen Cove Avenue at the light, where we have a crossing guard each morning and afternoon. We will also share this important safety precaution with students in school. Our thoughts are with this student and his family at this time.
