Police Using Enhanced Patrols To Stop DWI, BWI Over Labor Day Weekend
The increase in patrols will continue through Labor Day, police say.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Nassau County has a message for motorists over Labor Day weekend: Don't drink and drive.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder announced enhanced patrols to stop driving while intoxicated and boating while intoxicated over the three-day weekend.
The Nassau County Police Department has increased patrols through Labor Day to keep roadways safe and free from intoxicated or impaired drivers, police said.

The heightened patrols are possible due to a DWI enforcement grant from the New York State STOP DWI program, officials said.
The Nassau County Police Department's marine bureau is also continuing with its “Operation Safe Boating” program, with enhanced patrols during the holiday weekend to detect impaired boat operators and monitor all waterways for "reckless behavior," police said.

Blakeman and Ryder urged drivers and operators to use proper judgment to keep roads and waterways safe and to "not drink and drive," police said.
