Farmingdale resident Roger Miller has an interesting hobby. On weekends he drag races his 1969 Pontiac Firebird. Check out the video to see highlights from one of his races and what he has to say about the sport.
Miller has been racing for 22 years and enjoys the sport for the speed, he said. He also has a subsantial list of trophies and awards. His most recent was the Top Street Class Trophy at an Englishtown, N.J. race this past weekend. Two weeks ago he won a race in Reading, Penn.
His biggest win, he said, was winning "King of the Track" trophy and title in 2009.

"For one year at Englishtown, every time I raced, they would announce me as the King of the Track," said Miller.
Races are based on many factors, Miller said, not just who crosses the finish line first.

"It actually depends on the skill of the driver and being consistent," he said.
Miller said one of the greatest disappointments he and fellow racecar drivers face is the fact that all of the race tracks on Long Island have closed. In order to continue racing he has to travel out of state.
"There used to be three drag tracks on Long Island. Right now there's none, so if you want to do drag racing, you have to travel," Miller says.
