WASHINGTON, DC — Rep. George Santos has formally filed paperwork for a reelection bid for the 3rd Congressional District.

Santos, who faces investigations and inquiries into his past and campaign finances, does not have to actually run again.

The paperwork comes after the Federal Election Commission last month called on Santos to declare his intentions after crossing the fundraising threshold that required him to file a statement of candidacy, CNN reported.

The House Ethics Committee recently launched an investigation into Santos, whose lies have become known since winning the election in November.

The reelection filing allows the first-term congressman to continue raising money and use it for various campaign-related expenses. Additionally, he can pay back the $700,0000 he lent the campaign, The New York Times said.
