While there has been a long tradition of Easter services being held in Morgan Park, it was in 2016 that three churches joined together to form a committee to host the celebration. The bilingual service (Spanish and English) opened with “Christ is Risen” spoken in eight different languages, representing the far-reaching message of Easter, celebrated by Christians around the world. The committee soon grew to seven churches, both Protestant and Catholic, with the service being attended annually by over 200 people from the Glen Cove area. When the celebration had to be held virtually in 2020, over 2000 viewed the service online with expressions of “hallelujah” typed in the comment section on Facebook from as far away as Japan and Scotland. That year, Fr. Kevin Dillon, Pastor of St. Boniface Martyr Catholic Church, began his sermon reminding all, “The message of Easter lives on!”

Bagpipes and cross
North Shore resident Robert Lynch will again open the Annual Bilingual Community Easter Dawn Service with Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes.

The eight member-churches hosting the service this year are Calvary A.M.E Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Glen Cove Christian Church, Iglesia Ciudad de Refugio, St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church, Iglesia Ciudad Casa de Dios Internacional, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

All gather in Morgan Park
Community gathers for Bilingual Community Easter Dawn Service held on Easter morning in Glen Cove’s Morgan Park. The service always starts at 7 am at the base of the hill near Morgan Park Beach. All are invited to attend and are encouraged to arrive a few minutes prior to the start of the service.

All are invited to attend the seventh annual service to be held at 7:00 am in Morgan Park on Easter morning. The short service is intended to allow those who celebrate Easter an opportunity to come together as a community, prior to attending a full mass/service in one’s own tradition later in the morning. Attendees are urged to arrive early to allow time to walk down the hill to the beach, where the service is held overlooking Hempstead Harbor. For details, please visit the committee’s official Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/GlenCoveEaster.
