Suozzi Expected To Get Democrat Nod For Special Election
The former 3rd Congressional District representative met with Gov. Hochul to "clear the air," CBS2 reported.
GLEN COVE, NY — Tom Suozzi is expected to be named the Democratic candidate for the special election to replace George Santos in Congress. That announcement could happen later on Thursday.
But, Suozzi needed Gov. Hochul to sign off on the former representative for the 3rd Congressional District, Nassau County Democrats Chair Jay Jacobs confirmed to Patch.
The front runner was summoned to Hochul's Albany office on Wednesday to alleviate any potential bad blood after his gubernatorial run against her last year, Jacobs confirmed a report by CBS2.

A vote to decide the Democratic candidate is expected to take place Thursday afternoon, Jacobs said.

Part of being on the same page as the governor, she wanted to ensure Suozzi was best for the Democratic Party on hot-button issues, including abortion and migration.
Instead of a primary, party leaders are choosing their candidate for the Feb. 13 special election.
The winner will serve the remainder of Santos' two-year term before the campaign starts again for the November general election.
