'Wall That Heals' Vietnam War Memorial Coming To Glen Cove
The wall honors the three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War.

GLEN COVE, NY — The Wall That Heals, a 375-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., is coming to Glen Cove next week. A ceremony for the powerful memorial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday behind the Glen Cove Fire Department. The wall will then be escorted to its next destination at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
In an Instagram post Wednesday, Mayor Timoth Tenke thanked the group Heroes Among Us for bringing the wall to the city.
The wall honors the three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. About 58,000 names are scrawled on it who died in the war. The names are sorted according to the day they died.

"Bringing The Wall home to communities throughout our country allows the souls enshrined on the Memorial to exist once more among family and friends in the peace and comfort of familiar surroundings," the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund wrote on its website. "The traveling exhibit provides thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin."
