WASHINGTON, DC — Rep. George Santos' former communications director is speaking about her time with the first-term lawmaker, who faces a slew of federal charges connected to fraud and money laundering.
"It was a hard decision to make," Naysa Woomer told Patch about resigning her post. "It was hard, but it was also an easy one. He had been indicted the week before and it kind of threw me off course a little bit."
While the May indictment was on the radar, once the charges became official, "it became a real concern for me, not just career-wise," Woomer said.

"You really wanted to take a positive direction with him, making him into a normal congressman amidst all of the crises that were surrounding him, " she said.
As more media attention was focused on Santos' misrepresenting himself professionally and personally, Woomer quickly noticed a change in his personality.
"You're trying to be a legislator. You're not out there to seek fame," she said. "I was just seeing more of a celebrity and less of a congressman, and that was a massive red flag for me."
