- Voters approved the Glen Cove School District's $70.3 million 2010-11 budget on Tuesday, with 63 percent of taxpayers opting to pass the spending plan. With 3.70 percent as its tax levy increase, the average homeowner will see a little more than a $200 hike in their school taxes next year.

- The voting majority also elected candidates Grady Farnan and Ida McQuair to the Glen Cove Board of Education on Tuesday. The two defeated resident Roni Jenkins.

- Thursday marked a special day for Landing Elementary School as state education officials toured the school throughout the day. Landing is currently in the running to receive a national Blue Ribbon School Award, which is presented to schools for their academic excellence. Winners are scheduled to be announced in September. 

- The Big Red baseball team's season also came to end on Friday as it was swept in a quarterfinal playoff series by . Patch sends a congrats to the team for its playoff run and improved season.
