The weekend is here and it is filled with events for a wide range of tastes and audiences. See what's happening here in Glen Cove and within a short ride of town.
GLEN COVE:
Downtown Sounds, the music series presented by the Glen Cove Downtown BID and City of Glen Cove, continues Friday with Antigone Rising. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Cove Village Square.
Beach Boys' Sounds: Morgan Park's Summer Music Festival presents The Driftwoods, a Beach Boys tribute band, on Sunday. The park overlooks the water. Free. Performance begins at 7:30 p.m.; bring chairs and blankets.
PORT WASHINGTON
Opera in a Castle: One of Verdi's masterpieces, "La Traviata" comes to the Castle Gould at Sands Point Preserve Saturday evening, with doors opening at 7:30. The "Jewel Box" setting of the opera is an intimate, up-close way to experience the thrill of live opera. Cost: $75, includes pre- and post-opera reception with food and drink.
MASSAPEQUA
The Burton Cummings Band: The lead singer is a living legend in the Canadian music industry and known as the songwriter and lead singer for The Guess Who, performs a free concert Saturday at 8 p.m. at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa. Bring a blanket; part on the ongoing Oyster Bay Summer Under the Stars series.
