Bosworth Moves to Fill Vacant Town Board Seat

East Hills Trustee Peter Zuckerman to be considered Jan. 28.

East Hills Village Trustee Peter Zuckerman has been nominatedΒ to fill North Hempstead'sΒ vacant District 2 council seat.

Zuckerman, an attorneyΒ who hasΒ servedΒ three terms on the Village of East Hills Board of Trustees a a Democrat,Β said he was honored to be considered for the positionΒ left vacant by the resignation of former Councilman Tom Dwyer in November.Β 

According to the East Hills website,Β Zuckerman grew up in East Hills andΒ attended Roslyn schools. He served as intern to Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan and was a law clerk for state Supreme Court Judge Patricia Collins. He also served as a prosecutor for the Village of East Hills in the Village Court.

"I am confident that, working with Supervisor Bosworth and the other members of the Town Board, I will be able to have a direct and positive impact on the issues of importance to the residents of District 2," saidΒ Zuckerman in a statement Wednesday.

The nomination will be consideredΒ Jan. 28 by the town board.Β If appointed, Zuckerman will serve for the remainder of 2014.Β 

AΒ special election will beΒ held in November for an additional year in District 2Β until the end of 2015 withΒ the full four-year term for the seat to be decidedΒ in theΒ November 2015 race.Β 

According to town officials,Β 10 unnamedΒ individuals were considered for the position.

"Peter Zuckerman's 11 years of experience on the Village of East Hills Board of Trustees, his in-depth knowledge of the community, as well as his professional background as an attorney make him an exceptionally good fit for this position," said Supervisor Bosworth in a press release.

North Hempstead's Council District 2 encompasses Albertson, East Hills, East Williston, Glenwood Landing, Greenvale, Herricks, Manhasset Hills, Roslyn Harbor, Roslyn Heights and Searingtown.
