Jonathan Ebrani Opens New Store In Port

Business owner and resident Jonathan Ebrani is filling a void in Port Washington with his recently opened men’s clothing store. And though the building on the corner of Soundview Drive and Shore Road features a sign, visitors will find it also houses a fine clothing shop – with a sought-after tailor.

The store, Tailors by the Shore, opened in June. Even before Ebrani hung a shingle on the building, the shop has seen decent foot traffic because of staff and service, said Ebrani, who noted he also runs Giuseppe's Custom Clothiers in Great Neck, and an office in Times Square.

And when it comes to staff and service, Ebrani has just the man, a master tailor who goes strictly by “Freddy.”

Freddy had cultivated a following working as a tailor elsewhere in Port Washington, and recently, when he was seeking employment, Ebrani, who had worked with him in the past, was quick to hire him at his Great Neck store. It wasn’t long, though, before Ebrani decided it would be a good idea to open up shop in Port Washington.

“We kept getting phone call after phone call from loyal customers asking for him,” Ebrani said about Freddy. “And I don’t think there’s been a men’s store in Port Washington for about 15 years.”

The store consists of two levels. The first floor is where Freddy and fellow tailor Adriano work. The bottom floor is a custom clothing store run by Ebrani. Both sections of the store are by appointment only.

Freddy has a long history of tailoring. He learned the trade from his father, and has been doing it for 28 years. And though he commutes from Queens every day, he is thrilled to be back in the area.

“Port Washington is a good sector for me,” Freddy said. “I’m not moving from Port Washington, I like it here.”

Now, Ebrani is spreading the word that Freddy is back in town.

“The tailoring business has been unbelievable,” Ebrani said. “A lot of people have been very interested.  We’ve been trying to pump up Freddy and let his customers know where he is.”
