Patty Katz Sworn in as GNWPCD Commissioner

The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District announces that Patty Katz has been sworn-in for her first term as Commissioner, following the election on December 13, 2016. As incoming District Commissioner, Ms. Katz will join the Board to provide leadership at the District and make decisions to protect the environment and supply taxpayers with the highest quality service at the lowest possible cost.

“I am humbled and thankful for the support and confidence the community has placed in me to bring my experience of environmental issues to the District,” stated Commissioner Katz. “It will be an honor to serve alongside two proven leaders and work together to continue the District’s role as a leader amongst wastewater treatment centers in the northeast.”

Commissioner Katz will join Commissioners Jerry Landsberg and Steve Reiter on the three-person board. She fills the seat of Commissioner Deena Lesser, who has retired after 18 years with the District and decades of public service.

“The District is thrilled to welcome Patty Katz to the Board of Commissioners,” added Commissioner Landsberg. “We are confident that Commissioner Katz will make a lasting impact. Her record of introducing environmentally-conscious and cost-effective initiatives to our community will continue to expand in her new role.

Commissioner Katz brings an extensive background of environmental leadership to the position. She is the current Vice President of Reach Out America (ROA) and previously founded ROA’s Green Committee, which she proudly chaired for nine years. Commissioner Katz has also been a committed member of the Town of North Hempstead’s (TONH) Environmental Legacy Fund for Land Preservation and the TONH’s Ecological Commission – earning her the May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor for her years of activism.

The Great Neck Water Pollution Control District (GNWPCD) is a commissioner-run Special Improvement District within the Town of North Hempstead. The GNWPCD has provided sewage services for the Great Neck area since 1914, and currently serves more than 25,000 residents and businesses in the villages of Great Neck, Saddle Rock, Kensington, and those parts of Thomaston and Great Neck Plaza east of Middle Neck Road; as well as all unincorporated areas north of the Long Island Rail Road and a part of Manhasset.
