People, Pets Trade Places in PSA on Animal Safety [VIDEO]

How would you like it if your pet left you in a hot car?

Humans and dogs trade places in a public service announcement video highlighting animal safety.

To get the point across of how dangerous it is leaving a dog in a hot car, a new PSA put out by the Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York, has a person stay in a hot car while the dog goes into the store.

“A vehicle can very quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness or death,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a press release. “Even on a day that doesn't seem hot to you and even if you are only gone for a few minutes, you should never leave your pet in a car.”

If a pet is exposed to high temperatures, the animal may exhibit signs of distress such as stress-heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting or a deep red or purple tongue.

If you see a dog in a car or a pet exhibiting signs of heat stroke, please call 311 or the police immediately.
The PSA stars communications PR liaison Sam Marksheid as the pooch and Gangsta the dog as the human.
