Woman Struck by Train at Great Neck LIRR Station

The incident occurred Monday morning.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: The person struck by the train, a 65-year-old woman, is expected to make a full recovery after suffering head trauma, according to The Island Now. The woman was seen lying flat across the tracks in what officials say may have been a suicide attempt, the report says.

A person was struck by a train at the Great Neck Long Island Rail Road station Monday morning, the LIRR says.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. The person, who was not authorized to be on the tracks, was struck by an eastbound train that had left Penn Station at 10:49 a.m. and was due to arrive in Port Washington at 11:35 a.m.

There has been no word yet from authorities on the extent of the person’s injuries. LIRR service was suspended in both directions on the Port Washington branch, but service has been restored as of 12:18 p.m. LIRR officials say commuters should expect residual delays of up to 45 minutes on the branch.
