Sands Point Preserve Highlights Guggenheim Family
Public Invited to Design Showhouse from Nov. 1-30. Masquerade Ball preview event is Oct. 31.

Sands Point Preserve’s annual Design Showhouse at Hempstead House highlights the exquisite lifestyle of the Guggenheims, with house tours, fashion shows, daily performances, presentations and more, from Nov. 1-30, 10 a.m-4 p.m. (closed Tuesdays and Thanksgiving).
This year’s theme, Home of An American Renaissance Family, pays homage to the Guggenheim family’s extraordinary accomplishments in business, the arts, and philanthropy. Top designers have transformed the rooms inside the 1912 Tudor-style mansion into modern-day interpretations of the Guggenheim’s elegant Gold Coast lifestyle of the 1920s and 1930s.
The Masquerade Ball preview event takes place on Friday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m. – a magical evening of costumes and couture in Hempstead House.

Showhouse proceeds support essential restoration projects and improvements to the Preserve’s historic buildings and grounds.
“The Guggenheim Estate exemplifies the opulence of the Gatsby Era,” said Karli Hagedorn, chairman of the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve. “Our Showhouses are a great way for the public to get an inside view of an authentic Gold Coast estate while helping us raise funds for renovations to the property.”

“We are honored to present the finest interior designers and tradespeople who recognize the Guggenheim Estate’s historical significance,” said Friends’ Executive Director Jean-Marie Posner said. “This year, the Showhouse has been expanded to include additional designers and newly renovated rooms that were not featured in the last Showhouse – including Daniel and Florence Guggenheim’s master bedroom suite.”
Highlights this year include a Michael Mui/Lotus M fashion show on Nov. 6. Light lunches at Palm Court Café are available daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Showhouse tickets are $30 per person and are valid throughout November.
