USMMA to Host Blood Drive Tuesday

The blood drive will benefit Long Island Blood Services.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy is hosting ’a blood drive to benefit Long Island Blood Services on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 6-9:30 p.m. 

USMMA hosts three blood drives each year. The upcoming blood drive takes on critical importance at a time when LIBlood services is experiencing a shortage of blood supplies due to recent severe weather in the region. Each donation has the potential to save three lives.

The blood drive is open to those who meet the following criteria:

  • ID with signature and photo
  • Minimum weight 110 lbs
  • Age 16 - 75 (16 year-olds must present written permission from a parent.  Individuals 76 and over must present a doctor's note)
  • Must be well-hydrated and have eaten a low fat meal
  • No tattoos for past 12 months

Some donors who have travelled internationally within the last year may not be eligible to donate. This will be determined at the time of registration and on a case by case basis depending on where travel took place.

If you donate: The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is located at 300 Steamboat Road, Kings Point. The blood drive will be held at Land Hall.
