WATCH: Statue of Liberty Evacuated After Suspicious Package Found

Authorities conducted an evacuation of the Statue of Liberty on Friday.

According to a NBC report, parks police picked up the scent of a suspicious package shortly before 1 p.m.

A police bomb squad was called to the scene, and a security sweep of the island is being conducted, the NBC report stated.

Social media posts and photos from people on the scene show emergency responders conducting an orderly evacuation of the national monument.
