UPDATED: Dix Hills Man Seriously Hurt in Route 110 Crash

The two-car crash closed all southbound lanes for more than four hours Tuesday morning, police say.

UPDATED with additional details at 3:16 p.m.:

A 35-year-old Dix Hills man was seriously injured in a two-car crash on Route 110 in Melville Tuesday morning that caused lane closures for several hours, police say.

According to authorities, a 29-year-old Amityville woman was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima northbound on Route 110 near Duryea Road when she swerved into the southbound lanes and struck a 2015 Volkswagen Passat at 7 a.m.

The driver of the Volkswagen, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported with a serious head injury to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

The driver of the Altima was also transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

All Route 110 southbound lanes were closed from 7:34 a.m. to 12 p.m. following the crash.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
