Colleges Name Deans List and Honor Roll Students from HHH

The State University of New York at Geneseo has announced its Dean's List for the fall semester 2010. To be on the list, a student must have achieved a 3.5 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours.

SUNY Geneseo is a public liberal arts college recognized nationally for excellence in undergraduate education and for its professional and master's level programs. The college combines a rigorous curriculum and a rich co-curricular life to create a learning-centered environment.

The following local residents were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2010 semester at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh:

Nathan Rosenstein of Dix Hills, N.Y., (zip code 11746).

Carey Vanderborg of Melville, N.Y., (zip code 11747).

To be eligible for the dean's list, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average with at least 12 credit hours. A part-time, matriculated student is also eligible for the dean's list after accruing 12 credit hours consecutively and achieving a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average. These credits may be accumulated in more than one semester.

"We see these students as our academic all-stars," said Dr. John Ettling, SUNY Plattsburgh president. "They continue to make us proud, both in and out of the classroom."

SUNY Plattsburgh was founded in 1889 as a teaching college and became an original member of the State University of New York in 1948. The four-year comprehensive college now offers more than 60 majors and a wide range of special programs. Its mission is to prepare graduates for professional life and advanced studies through a foundation in liberal arts and an experience that celebrates excellence, ethical values, lifelong learning and responsible citizenship in a global community.

Several area residents have been named to the President's and Deans' lists for the fall semester at SUNY Oswego. Showing academic achievement, with their major and honor in parentheses, are:

Amanda R. Kindler of Pheasant Run Lane in Dix Hills, a freshman (psychology, Deans' List).

Matt A. Mears of Barrington Place in Melville, a freshman (business administration, President's List).

The President's and Deans' lists represent the academic top 25.9 percent of the Oswego student body. Students who achieve grade averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale are named to the President's List, the top 6.3 percent of Oswego students. To be included on the Deans' List, students must have a semester grade average of 3.30 to 3.79.

Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News named the college among the Top Regional Universities in the North for 2011 and includes it in its annual guidebook "America's Best Colleges." The Princeton Review counts Oswego among "The Best Northeastern Colleges."

A 149-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls more than 8,300 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.

The following area residents have been named to the Dean's List at Providence College for the Fall 2010 semester:

Nicole Nobile of Dix Hills, NY, a member of the class of 2011,

Ariana Tantillo of Dix Hills, NY, a member of the class of 2011,

To qualify for the Dean's List, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.

Providence College is the only college or university in the United States administered by the Dominican Friars. The Catholic, liberal arts college has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 3,900 students and offers degrees in 49 academic majors. Since 1997, Providence College has been ranked as one of the top three regional universities in the north in U.S. News' America's Best Colleges.

Dix Hills resident Alicia Joseph was named to the Dean's List for the 2010 fall semester at Messiah College. Joseph is a junior majoring in nursing. Dean's List is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls 2,800 undergraduate students in more than 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
