Around the World at Sunquam Elementary School
Celebrating diversity at the school's Multicultural Fair.
The multicultural celebration at Sunquam Elementary School is an annual event, introducing students to foreign countries, geography, cultures, languages, flags, and traditional elements that make each place wonderfully unique.
Students receive their ‘passports’ at the entry point—the U.S. Customs gate. With PTA Volunteer Guides, their journey begins, visiting the many corners of the world. With so much to see on display, students learn about everything from currency to toys, artifacts to traditions.
The itinerary included Israel, Italy, Turkey, Jamaica, Thailand, Ireland, Egypt, Ireland, Turkey, South Africa, and Mexico, India, Thailand, Greece, to name some. Special interactive activities included writing a note to place on the Wailing Wall in Israel; getting a Bindi jewel on the forehead in India; dressing in traditional Turkish costumes and Marbling Ebru Art by a creative Designer. All the experiences were enriching.
High School East Spanish and Italian Foreign Language honor students were also present to meet and greet the Sunquam students during this year's fair held on Feb. 5.
