Art League Of LI Hosts "Empty Bowls" Fundraiser For Veterans
The event, hosted in conjunction with the Suffolk County Council VFW, rose funds to end hunger and food insecurity for Suffolk veterans.

DIX HILLS, NY — The Art League of Long Island, in collaboration with the Suffolk County Council VFW, recently hosted a community event called "Empty Bowls." The gathering served as a fundraiser towards ending hunger and food insecurity in Suffolk County’s veteran community, according to the Suffolk County Legislature.
Legislator Susan A. Berland, chairwoman of the Legislature’s Veterans Committee, attended the event. Guests were asked to contribute $20, the proceeds of which were donated to the Suffolk County Council VFW. In return, they were able to select a handcrafted ceramic bowl to take home as a reminder of those who continue to struggle with hunger and food insecurity.
“Empty Bowls” began almost 30 years ago as a charitable event hosted by artists and students in Michigan and has become a grassroots movement in communities throughout the world.
