Here are some of the top events going on around town today.

Here is a sampling of some of the events happening in Dix Hills/Melville today, Monday, March 14. For a complete listing, please browse the events calendar on the Dix Hills Patch site.

  1. Take a look at the article "March Madness: Dix Hills Basketball," starting at 2 p.m. and learn about a great nonprofit we have in Half Hollow Hills. They have a Challenger program, so that special-needs kids can play basketball as well. It's a wonderful organization.
  2. Over at the  today is open sessions of bridge and chess.  will be played between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and c will be played between 2 and 5 p.m. These are informal sessions; no instruction provided. There is no registration required, just bring your own game equipment.
  3. Moms, bring your child/children, ages 6 weeks and up, to Tanger Outlets at the Arches in Deer Park this morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and join the weekly  moms group. This fitness program allows moms to exercise while spending time with baby in a social atmosphere. An individual class is $17 with multi-class discounts available.
  4. Monday is "" at the Tanger Outlets at the Arches outdoor ice skating rink. The rink is open from 3-9 p.m., but from 4-7 p.m. costs just $7 for both skating and skate rental.
  5. Monday is also "Bowl Your Brains Out" night at 300 Bowling LI on Walt Whitman Road, Melville. Between the hours of 6 and 11 p.m., unlimited bowling including shoe rental for only $10 on the main concourse or $15 on the Back 9.
