Do Not Text And Drive
My name is attorney Kenneth Mollins. Everyday I hear about accidents that result from drivers distracted by their cell phones. Do not use your cell phone while driving.

Hello. My name is Kenneth Mollins. I live in Smithtown, NY. I work in Melville, NY. The trip to work for me starts at 8:30 in the AM. I arrive at the office at 8:55, give or take a few minutes. That's a twenty five minute drive. I enjoy stating the obvious.
Speaking of obvious, I am sure you are aware that using a cellular device while operating an automobile is not legal. Not only is it illegal it's not safe. According to Textinganddriving.com In 2011 at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones. Additionally the site states the average text message takes 5 seconds. At 55 MPH you can drive the length of a football field in that time.
Every day I am able to spot at least one person using a cell phone while driving. Distracted driving is prevelent among both teens and adults. Here is a fun fact from ATT.com, According 77 percent of teens, adults tell kids not to text while driving – yet adults do it themselves, "all the time."
Yikes! If parents aren't setting a good example what can be done? Well, the state has taken notice of the problem and taken action. The fine for distracted driving might be about to increase. A deal reportedly is near to make distracted driving fines more expensive. The 2013-2014 New York state budget proposals would increase the current maximum fine of $100 to $150. The second offense (within a year and a half) would be $200. The third, $400.
So, why am I writing about this issue? I am a New York State Personal Injury and Criminal Defense attorney. Everyday I hear from NY residents that have been involved in automobile accidents. More and more these accidents are a result of "distracted driving." Many people do not consider distracted driving to be a big deal. Think again, it is!
