Community Update

Compared to many on the LI, we have nothing to complain about. We did not suffer devastation. Sure, we had 7 days without power.  No heat or hot water. Waited hours for gasoline.  Missed work and school for a week. But we learned to power of resourcefulness. Cooking on toast on the bbq. Using the car as a make-shift generator (before the gas shortage). We bonded as a family as we gathered around the battery powered lantern every night and tried to read. Outside, fallen trees everywhere created a surreal landscape. My deepest memory will remain that of my dear Robert Mayer family. Last time this year, their home was a haven for me.  Hot water for a shower. DVD entertainment at night via generator.  Lots of warm memories.  Word has it that he helped many neighbors on his block during this time.  Most of all, he took care of his family in his uniquely resourceful way.  Sadly, Robert Mayer disappeared on 6/14/13 and has not been heard from or seen since.
