DHFD Receives Artwork from HS Students

John Vierling, a volunteer firefighter and a security guard at Hills West, came up with the idea. "I thought the station looked barren, so I decided to ask the art students to make something for our walls. I gave them our Company One patch and the patch from the whole Dix Hills Fire Department, as well as our 9-11 patch and they were able to copy the perfectly." 

Jeannette Nourry is an art teacher at Hills West and one of the advisors for the art honor society. "All 65 art honor society members took part in the job," she said. "They took shifts painting different sections. Some drew, some painted. It took them about three weeks."

Julie Park, a member of the art honor society, said, "At first we were a little nervous. What if someone messes up, we wondered? But it came out great."

On January 10, the art honor society members presented the three paintings to the Dix Hills Fire Department, represented by John Vierling, Chief Tom Magno and former chief Richard Sorrentino.
