Car Strikes Snowbank, Overturns on Northern State

The responded to an accident on the Northern State Parkway, eastbound lanes, about a mile east of the Deer Park Avenue exit on Saturday morning at about 11:10 a.m. 

The driver of an Infiniti Q45 suffered a head injury after the car lost control and struck a snowbank on the shoulder, went airborne and hit a tree, overturning onto its side. 

The male driver was able to self-extricate from the car which was totaled, and he was transported to Huntington Hospital by Dix Hills Rescue Squad ambulance. 

"The patient is very lucky to be alive," according to Assistant Chief Tom Magno. 

About 25 Dix Hills volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with three ambulances, three heavy rescue trucks, and a paramedic unit, under the command of Assistant Chiefs Tom Magno and Tom Napolitano.  

"The snow is still attributing to serious motor vehicle accidents due to high banks of snow on the road.  Drivers are urged to use caution," said Chief Magno.
