Dix Hills Fire Department Dedicates New Firehouse

The new facility houses and supports Dix Hills firefighters and emergency medical personnel, and is outfitted with the necessary vehicles.

DIX HILLS, NY—The Dix Hills Fire Department recently dedicated its new Company Two Firehouse with a public ribbon cutting ceremony, according to P.I.O. Steve Silverman.

The facility houses and supports Dix Hills firefighters and emergency medical personnel who help protect the community. The new Firehouse is located on East Deer Park Road, adjacent to Fire Headquarters. Following the ceremony, the Dix Hills Fire District hosted a community barbeque as well as tours its new facility.

"The new Firehouse is a fitting tribute to both our volunteers and the entire Dix Hills community," Dix Hills Fire District Commissioner Larry Feld stated. "From its inception, the plan was to build a suitable operations facility for the dedicated men and woman who spend countless hours training and responding to calls, without financially burdening Dix Hills taxpayers. We received a great deal of advice and assistance from local civic groups as well as many individuals, and we are grateful for all their support."

The new building is outfitted with two fire engines, an ambulance and several other vehicles. There's also a new bunk room that facilitates rapid response.

"This building was built by our Commissioners with input from our community and with the volunteer members in mind," Chief Alan Berkowitz said. "As Chief of the Department, it is always our goal to protect and serve the community to the best of our ability. This all starts with making sure that the volunteers have a safe place to be."
