Dix Hills Firefighters Rescue Flag During Blizzard

The flag was brought back to the firehouse for safekeeping and later returned to the homeowner.

During last week's blizzard on January 4, Dix Hills volunteer firefighters were standing by at their stations ready to respond for any emergencies.

Firefighters at headquarters on Deer Park Avenue noticed that the strong winds broke the bracket of an American Flag across the street from the firehouse, and the flag was hanging upside down in distress and about to blow away in the storm. Firefighters Marc Ligator (carrying flag) and Chanan Schupak braved the elements and ran across the street and rescued the flag, which was brought back to the firehouse for safekeeping and later returned to the homeowner.
