Dix Hills Mom - 5-Year Breast Cancer Survivor- Raises Awareness

Robin's Racers Gives Back to Community Sunday October 21 from 10 am to 4 pm with Fundraiser and Family Activities in Dix Hills

Robin Steinberger of Dix Hills recently marked her 5-year breast cancer survivor anniversary. The mother of two was diagnosed at 33 years old Stage 2, BRCA negative with no family history of cancer during a routine exam at her doctor’s office. In the years following her diagnosis, treatment, and remission, Robin has become a tireless fundraiser with her “Robin’s Racers” team in support of the American Cancer Society, raising tens of thousands of dollars first with a yearly team at the Jones Beach Making Strides walk and then her own annual vendor shopping event, first held in East Meadow in 2015 at the East Meadow Jewish Center and then continuing at the Dix Hills Jewish Center in 2017 after her family relocated. Robin also launched the first “Pink Shabbat” while at EMJC to increase community awareness of the disease, which she has also brought to the DHJC.

Robin’s upcoming fundraising event is Sunday, October 21 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Dix Hills Jewish Center at 555 Vanderbilt Parkway in Dix Hills. All proceeds from the event will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Long Island and Sharsheret (Hebrew for "chain”), an American not-for-profit organization intended to support young Jewish women with breast cancer, or a genetic predisposition to it, and their families.

“I want to help Making Strides and Sharsheret so that no other young mother has to endure what I did. I also want this to be the last my daughters hear of breast cancer. Additionally, I want to help raise awareness regarding how many young women under the age of 40, who do not yet receive mammograms, are diagnosed.”
