Drunken Man Seriously Injures Woman In Suffolk Collision: Police

The man was charged with DWI after police say he rear-ended another car on the Long Island Expressway.

DIX HILLS, NY — A man was arrested after Suffolk police said he drove while drunk and crashed into another car, seriously injuring a woman, on Saturday morning in Dix Hills.

Sargunvir Sondhi, 26, of Dix Hills, was driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz G30 eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 51 in Dix Hills, when he struck the back of a 2015 Nissan Sentra at 5:07 a.m., police said.

The passenger in the Nissan, a 63-year-old Plainview woman, was brought to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious injuries, police said. The Nissan driver, her 63-year-old husband, was not injured, police said.

Sondhi was not injured either, police said.

Sondhi was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives asked anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
